Merry Christmas and (I hope to have) a Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas!!!

I know, Christmas has passed, but I'm still in the Christmas spirit ok!  So don't judge me!!  I felt all of the positivity exuding from all of the Christmas blog posts I'd read in the past day or so, and since I clearly didn't post on Christmas Day, I decided now was the time.  Think of this as a "belated" Christmas post :)

How was everyone's Christmas?  I had a lovely time hanging out with the family.  Besides the fact that every Christmas I get into a little argument with my uncle about Beyonce.  I fall for it every.single.year.  He only starts talking bad about her because he knows I'll immediately stand up for her (ya'll know I love me some Bey).  I'm not falling for it next year though, mark my words!

My family really surprised me this year for Christmas.  I asked for a couple things, a makeup bag and some silver cross earrings (which I fortunately received).  I ended up getting a lot more than I expected,  including my biggest surprise upon opening the Christmas gift from my Pop Pop!

I got a Nikon D3100!!  I was actually saving up to purchase this camera myself!  I had been fussin' all month, Oprah had given it away as one of her "favorite things" this year, and just a few days before Christmas I had checked out the camera in a store, to finalize my decision!  I was screaming and carrying on as soon as I started unwrapping the paper and noticed the word "Nikon" haha.  Apparently everyone knew, and also knew I was going to scream lol.  It was a total suprise!  I'm so very thankful!

Here are a few lovely items I received from my family:

Lovely cross earrings :)

This beautiful cashmere scarf that is leopard print on one side, and paisley on the other, with fur tassels on the end.  How unique!  I absolutely love it!

We switched it up this year as far as food, my Pop Pop wanted fried chicken (lol), so that's what we ate! Along with, biscuits, steak, mac & cheese, collard greens, sweet potatoes, crab cakes, scallops wrapped in bacon,... It was all delicious!  I took a plate home with a taste of everything (or two)!

My hair was larger than life that day... And my behind is lookin' pretty large too lol #gymmembershippending

My dog Cocoa with her festive scarf piece haha
My late Grandmother in her first communion with her parents :)

I'm headed to NYC for the second annual "New Years Eve Celebration with the Crew".  This time it's going to be bigger and better.  More friends, more fun!!  I'm heading over on the 30th (which is my friend's bday) to celebrate at his bday party.  Then NYE we're going to be eating hors d'oeuvres/drinking champagne/looking fabulous until we head out to party hop until the New Year!

I'll be heavily documenting this trip, I can't wait to show you guys!  I even have a little something something I came up with to really capture the essence of my New Year's Eve of 2010!

I can't wait for the New Year to begin.  I feel like this is going to be a great year for me.  Now that I'm graduated from college, this is the time to dip and dabble into different fields, see what I want and do not want to do.  It's all about discovery and determination.  No better time than now, right?!  I'm going to make a list of goals (career and personal) that I want to achieve in 2011, and actually follow through with them!!

Are you making any New Year's Eve Resolutions?

Best,

Kris

I've been away, but I'm here to stay

I apologize for the lack of a post for almost a week (gasp).  I came down with a cold and am still getting over it :(  I always get sick during finals week, and I thought since I graduated this past summer, I wouldn't get sick this time of year because I obviously don't have any finals to take.... And I still ended up getting sick!  What is the sense in that?!

I honestly can't make sense of it haha!

Christmas is 5 days away, I look forward to going to Christmas mass and hanging out with the fam.  I didn't really ask for anything this year, although I may have dropped a few "hints" on things hehe.

I was feeling a little down in my last post, but I'm moving forward with positivity from this point on!  Your comments were so supportive, I truly appreciate each and every one of them!

wearing: H&M Cosby sweater, Vintage Faux Fur suede coat, Dolce Vita suede boots

What did you guys ask for Christmas this year?  Do you still ask for things?  What is your take on the Christmas holiday?

Before I leave you, let me tell you a little story, I think a lot of you will be able to relate.  My mother was on the phone with her sister, in an "attempt" to gossip about sports.  Bad move.  She ended up referring the football player, Chad Ochocino as "Cinco de Mayo."  All I could do was shake my head.  I shared the same story as my facebook status, and one of my friends sent me this video.  Hilarious.  This is my mother!!

I'm not quite sure if I'll do another post before Christmas Day, so everyone have a lovely holiday!!  I will most certainly be back before the New Year!

Blessed,

Kris

"Good things may come to those who wait...

... but only the things left behind by those who hustle."

The past few days have been an emotional rollercoaster, but I've tightened up my safety belt, and holding on!  I've been really pensive about everything going on in my life right now, from relationships, to family life, to my career... It's not always about what you want to do, but what you need to do, to get where you want to be! (Preach sister, preach!) lol

To contrast my heavy heart and emotions, here are some fun pics that were shot the other day.  I had a lot of fun shooting this look, my bff Sasha and I were cracking up the whole time!  I find these pics pretty fun, I hope you do too :)

On a lighter note, I found out that one of my photos has been selected to be featured in Essence Magazine's "Street Style" page!  It's a two-page spread featuring women from all over the country, showcasing their style!  I'm a big fan of Essence Magazine, it has been a staple in my household for as long as I can remember!  The feature won't be out until the new year, so I'll let you know when it's issued, so you all can look out for it!

More fun news, I found myself on The Moptop Maven's blog!  I am a reader of her blog, and find her content really informative and refreshing!  But I actually wasn't the one who discovered it.  My mom's soror did.  Then some friends shortly following!  I thought it was pretty cool, you can check out the post here.

Wearing: ASOS Blue denim shirt, vintage leopard scarf, Elephant Bone/Wood earrings, Circa Joan & David Hunter Green heeled boots

For a little bit of hair talk, I've been wearing my twist out like it's my job.  It's big and curly, and I love it!  All I'm doing when it's loosing it's "umph" is re-twisting it every other night and adding a little shea butter while twisting.  I also am going to be posting a new youtube video soon!  I've been getting a lot of emails and questions regarding how to take care of your hair after you do the big chop!  I'll let you know when it's posted!

I also joined lookbook, so whomever is on it, send me your links!  Here is mine: lookbook

Whenever I'm feeling down, or having a tough week, I try to remember this: "Do something positive and creative every single day. It can be a small thing, from writing a few lyrics to writing a thank you card to a friend. Bring positivity to people, and that is what you will receive. Create and you will inspire! A little goes a long way, do this everyday and you’ll notice a change of energy and light in your life."

Have a great week,

Kris

#1, 2, 3, 4...

Good morning!  It's Thursday, which means it's almost the weekend!

I assume most of you ladies are on Facebook.  And I'm sure you were well aware of the "Numbers Game" going around, which was ALL OVER my newsfeed, and I'm sure it was on yours too.  The games goes: You send a person a message with any number, and they post that number as their status along with stating anything they'd like about you.  It could turn into a sticky situation yes, but since I NEVER participate in Facebook debauchery, I decided for once, why not?

I ended up having a lot of fun doing it, I gave everyone that messaged me positivity, and I received positivity from the people I messaged as well.  Ain't nuthin' wrong with showing people some love!  Did you guys participate?

These are pics of me being "coy" and "flirty" on Photo Booth... I'm an only child... Don't judge lol.
I'm still rocking my natural big hair just so ya'll know :)

I actually got a lot of positive feedback from new hair do I tried out.  Thanks guys!  I actually started loving it as the days went on, and it seemed to get bigger and better each day.  Literally.  It started turning into Tracee Ellis Ross hair!  My mom even thought I had wet it or something cuz it started frizzing and volumizing on it's own.  But that's what you get when you have natural hair... It has a mind of it's own!!...  And as a side note to natural ladies, I'm really enjoying the shea butter I used, it smells so good too!  I posted the link to the website in my last post if you're interested in purchasing :)

As far as other updates, something tragic happened.  I lost MY FAVORITE lip liner.  My favorite one! I could've misplaced it, but I'm saying it's lost because I'm dramatic like that.  So I guess my only option will be to run to the M.A.C. store and get another one ( it gives me an excuse to go makeup shopping hehe).

I also mentioned in my last post that I found my New Year's Eve dress.  WRONG.  I decided I don't want to wear it for NYE.  It was honestly an impulse purchase, and I plan to return it.  I had a vision of what I wanted to wear, and this dress doesn't even come close.  It is a pretty dress though...

I kind of want to show you what I WILL be wearing for NYE, but I want it to be a surprise... I might break down and reveal it to you guys ;)

Have a great day,

Kris

"I'm livin' in that 21st Century, doin somethin mean to it"

**udpate: After giving Kanye's album a better listen, I take back the negative stated.  The song I was referring to turned out to be one of my favorite tracks!  His usage of metaphors and rhythm with these monster tracks are amazing.  I absolutely LOVE his new album, and it's different from anything he has ever done, but in a great way!**

Good afternoon!  I've been bumpin Kanye's new album all day, and I have to say, I like it.  It's different from anything he's ever done, and I like the direction he's moving in.  The only negative I have about the album is the fact that there are so many features on the album.  11 people on one track.  Is that reallllyyy necessary?!  I'd rather hear him do three verses, than a chorus, if you know what I mean...

Anywho, I get so excited to read your comments and check out all of your blogs.  There is so much talent out there, thank you all for sharing that talent with me!!  It's honestly really inspiring!

I did a little Christmas shopping yesterday, and if there was a 1st place, I think I would win for "best presents."  And I'm not talking about how much money I spent, I just really nailed it this year.  I'm excited for everyone to open their presents!  Did you guys check out my wish list from the post below?   Do any of you have anything you hope to receive this Christmas?

Besides that, I've been watching Beyonce's Thanksgiving Special on DVD daily (I'm a FAN) lol.

I did my hair differently, I like it ok, but I don't think it'll last that long...

I used this brand of shea butter to twist my hair, all natural and it smells so good!

Chic Afrique shea butters, purchase here
I found my New Year's Eve dress, but don't have any plans yet.  Last year I went to the city (NYC) and partied with some friends.  I had a great time and plan to go to the city again this year, but I don't know where I'll be going!  I still have some time to figure it out ;)

"I Wish" List

Can you believe it's December 1st?!  WOW, the year is almost at an end!  Shoutout to all the Sags?! (I'm a big astrology fan haha)

I've decided to do a short post to share with you all my wish list. We all have one, so why not share? And no, I cannot afford half of these items, hence the name "wish," but it's harmless to dream, right?.....
I've been discovering new things about myself every day. It's an exciting journey I'm on, and I feel that I'm growing everyday. I guess perfect timing, since the new year is right around the corner! I also have some cool things coming up for you guys this month too, so stay tuned :) To anyone who's checking out my blog and liking it, please do me the honor of following or subscribing! And I'm still checking out your blogs when you add the links under your comments! Thanks for sharing!  Before I leave you, I wanted to make aware that:

On this day, 55 years ago, Rosa Parks stood up for her rights by refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white passenger. It is women like her that I thank that I am able to live the life I live today. It is women/men like her that have inspired me to always stand up for what I believe in, and never submit to any discrimination of any kind. It also pushes me to work hard and to succeed, because I wouldn't be afforded the rights I have today if it wasn't for the Civil Rights Movement. Thank you Rosa Parks.

It is also World AIDS Day. Let us remember those who have lost the battle to destructive disease. But to bring positivity, we have come along way as far as treatment, and millions of lives have been saved over the past decade from advancement in medicine.

Sincerely,
Kris

The First Snow

Happy Thanksgiving!!  I know it was yesterday but I can still say it, right??  I had a lovely Thanksgiving and I have some things that I am grateful for!  I'm really grateful for family.  They've always been there for me, anytime I need it, and it felt so good to be around loved ones.  This is also the first Thanksgiving without my Grandmother, who passed away a couple of days before Thanksgiving last year.  I am very grateful for her.  We all missed her this year, but I think about her everyday and can feel her watching over me, and it makes me feel better :)

I'm very thankful for my Pop Pop, who just recently turned 88 (can you believe it!) who is always supportive of any dream or endeavor I have, even if it may be crazy or unreasonable.

I'm very grateful for my parents who are pushing me to chase after my dreams.  They just want me to be happy, and will always be behind me if ever and whenever I need them!  Love you guys!

I am also thankful for all of my friends all over the country.  I wish I could see you all regularly!  I'm  additionally thankful for all of the positive feedback and lovely comments I'm getting from you all!  I really appreciate it, more than you know :D

Dinner was at my Aunt's house and I sat at the kiddie table (as usual), but we upgraded the name to the, ahem, "Young Adult" table this year lol.

Adult Table
YOUNG Adult Table

I know my hair looks short, but I have it pinned up.  It's time to wash it, so I might do a tutorial on a new natural doo I'm going to try ;)  And good luck to all you ladies shopping today on Black Friday!  Be careful!!  I did what I'd like to call "online" Black Friday shopping, but it turned out to be just as stressful!! :/

List one thing you're thankful for this year, I'd love to read them!

Sincerely,
Kris

Touch My Body

We all know it's harder to keep your skin glowing and hydrated in the wintertime. It can suck even more (if you live in cooler climates) that you have to keep your arms and legs covered for almost six months straight! Meanwhile, your skin isn't getting the attention that it needs!........ No bueno. If you're nostalgic for that summer glow, and want to keep your skin softer than a baby's behind all year long, I may have a couple tricks up my sleeve to make that happen!

I want to share with you all what I do to keep my skin soft, clear, and smooth!

Face to Face:
I started using the Origins skin care product line beginning in high school, and have been using it ever since!  I have really sensitive skin, and I have never had a single issue with any of their products.  Here is what I use on a regular basis:

Checks and Balances: You want a daily cleanser that cleanses well, but gentle enough not to leave your skin feeling dull and parched.  This frothy cleanser targets both oily and dry skin, and leaves my face feeling so fresh and so clean clean. *the little green tube was a free sampler, still testing it out :)
A Perfect World: is my absolute favorite product from the line.  It's hard to find a single product that totally moisturizes my skin.  This moisturizer has a thick consistency, and is made with White Tea that gives your face an almost silky feel.  After applying this product, my skin has a nice glow, and no need to re-apply!  Your face will feel good as new until the next time you wash!
Have a Nice Day: Even in the winter your skin is exposed to the UV rays from the sun, and it's important to protect your skin from them!  This super charged moisture cream has SPF 15 Sunscreen.  It also has a light grapefruit scent that wakes you up (good for the morning)!  I use a little bit of this after I apply A Perfect World.
Ginger Body Scrub: This is becoming a favorite of mine.  I've been looking for a scrub/exfoliator for awhile, and I was so happy to stumble upon this one!  I have used it a few times, and I love it!  I use it after bathing, and the scent from the sweet ginger alone makes me happy! The sea salt removes the dead skin, and the mixture of oils in the scrub leave your skin very smooth with a nice sheen.  (Don't forget to use this on the bottoms of your feet)!

Modern Friction: I use this gentle dermabrasion on my face a couple times a week when I need to be refreshed!  Microdermabrasion can be so harsh on the skin (no one under 45 needs to be using it, in my opinion), and Modern Friction is a safer and gentler alternative that gives great results!  I immediately notice a difference in the clarity of my skin after one use!

For the Body:

You don't have to spend tons of money to have healthy and radiant skin!  I have been using these products since I was a child, and have no plans to change that fact!

Eucerin: I have eczema, and as a child, my breakouts were pretty bad.  This was the ONLY lotion that could moisturize my skin/dry patches.  It has a thick, creamy consistency, and your skin will stay hydrated throughout the day.  It can be a bit pricy for body lotion, but it's worth the cost.  TRUST.
Johnson & Johnson's Baby Oil: We all know about baby oil, whether we use it or not.  And I have to tell you, you don't have to be a baby to use it!  Here's one of my tricks to keeping my skin moisturized (especially during the winter).  After showering and rinsing off, don't towel dry.  Immediately after stepping out the shower, apply the baby oil to your entire body.  If you still are a little wet, blot dry those areas with your towel.  Proceed with applying lotion to your entire body, as you normally would.  You're now left with extremely soft skin, with a nice little glow.  Watch out now!
Palmer's Cocoa Butter, Swivel Stick: Cocoa Butter anything is one of the best ways to eliminate a scar or dark mark, and I use this swivel stick anywhere I need to!  Don't forget about your lips, I frequetly use this as a lip balm.
Vaseline: Vaseline is a household item that some people don't use to its fullest potential!  I make sure I coat my lips with this stuff every night before going to bed.  I don't know if anything will ever hydrate my lips like vaseline does lol!  If you've run out of makeup remover, and your facial wash isn't cutting it, try applying a little vaseline to the area, and wipe off with a soft tissue (especially for eye makeup)!  Ladies/Men with dry feet?  When getting ready for bed, coat your feet with vaseline, then wrap your feet in saran wrap overnight.  The saran wrap helps your feet retain moisture, and the next day you'll be doing the Moonwalk just like MJ!  If the saran wrap is too xcore, just throw on a pair of socks!

*Origins line can be purchased here, and they have physical store locations, and are sold in select department stores.  Their products are not tested on animals nor contain: Parabens, Phthalates, Propylene Glycol, Mineral Oil, PABA, Petrolatum, Paraffin, DEA, Synthetic Fragrance, Animal Ingredients.  All body care products can be found at your local Target, Walmart, or Grocery store.*

Thanksgiving is a few days away, and I'm excited to have some family time!  What are you thankful for this year?

Step by Step

Hi everyone!  Today is Thursday, and I am happy to say it because it's almost the weekend!  I wanna see Harry Potter tnite at midnight, but I can't find anyone who's available to go argh (I'll be working on this all day).  But I'm not going to be a complete geek and talk about HP the whole post...

I went to NYC on Tuesday to go to the re-launch of Ruff Ryder Records (previous artists include DMX, Eve, Jadakiss, renowned producer Swizz Beatz).  I actually got to meet Swizz Beatz and he seems really chill and down to earth.  I got to see the studio where he first started producing... He said he used to LIVE in that studio lol.  I hope some of that inspiration/passion/success rubbed off on me!

I've been slacking a little on my "re-vamp room" mission, only because I need help doing it.  And my bff's are not tryna help smh... I WILL make progress today, as soon as I press enter, I will be off organizing this room!

These are some pics of me before I got my "hurr did"

For those that saw my youtube video, I hope you liked it~

Straight hair, don't care

Happy Saturday!  I hope you are all having a lovely weekend!  I have really been enjoying this weather!  It's been in the mid sixties and sunny for the past few days (that's warm where I'm from, especially in November)!

Since my last post, I have been soul searching, changing some things in my life, and trying to bring some positive energy around me!  I decided a good way to do so would be to re-vamp my room!  I'm cleaning it (much needed, I know Mom...), re-organizing, and doing a little Feng Shui!  I have a new inspiration board, and am going to hang up some inspirational quotes (if you know of any, let me know)!  :-)

As some as you may or may not know, I am a big fan of hair care.  I love everything about hair, and I'm making it a point to know everything I can learn about black hair care.  Natural black hair care, specifically.  And if you don't know what I mean by "natural hair," I'm talking about sistah's who don't add any chemicals to their hair to alter their natural texture (not that I have anything against women who relax their hair).  Anywho, I have a youtube channel that talks about hair care (and I plan to eventually incorporate my music), and you can check it out here.

I was tired of the twists in my hair, so I took them out, got my hair blown out, and trimmed.  Do you like it?

I also just recorded a video of 10 ways to promote and maintain hair growth!!  You can check it out below :)

Have a safe and wonderful rest of the weekend!
